The Marshall Fire devastated the communities of Louisville and Superior in Boulder County, Colorado on December 30th, 2021. Nearly 1,000 homes (and many businesses) burned to the ground, leaving nearly 2500 people homeless with thousands more people being displaced from homes that may have been spared but damaged. There are a lot of people who need help, and thankfully a lot of people who want to help them.

This is a list of resources for both groups of people. If you want to add anything to the list, or know of something that needs to be changed, please contact me. If you have an individual need or opportunity for assistance please try to list it on one of these resources, which are all more widely distributed than this post. This list is focused on making it easy for the affected people to find what they need without feeling overwhelmed.

I will do my best to keep this list up to date, but please keep in mind that things change rapidly during disaster recovery–this is something I have seen again and again in my work in disaster recovery, whether from flood, hurricane, or terrorist attack. Please share this list far and wide so anyone who needs help, or has help to offer can get what they need.

Hope and Support

  • How to help a friend who lost their home
  • MealTrain: Set up meal delivery for a friend
  • Consider mailing a card or banner to an organization or community center in the area. In previous disasters I’ve been involved with, seeing these plastered to walls was rejuvenating and hopeful and kept me going through hard times.
  • If you are local, support a friend by having them tell you their needs and you do some of the leg work to meet those needs so they can focus on their family or themselves. This is such an heavy situation, but if those of us with a little more bandwidth can share some of the load, we lighten the burden.
  • Be and Belong Prayer Flag Project: email info@beandbelongcounseling.com to be involved in this community processing art project.
